Pvt Dick's Birthday and BTN/Induksi

>> Sunday, 2 May 2010

Hey, hey guys! And welcome aboard to any new readers!

Alrite, if u see the last post, you would realise that the last post was way back in 2008...ages ago.

Well, I decided to reopen back the blog and make it active..it shall mainly be a blog that documents what the Band of Bastards are actually up to in their respective war fronts, each of us fighting our own battle to stay alive in our PRP (Postgraduate Recruit Phase) training. It shall be like a band of bastard log book to document what recent missions our group has embarked on.

So what's up recently? What could be better than starting the first post of the year with something regarding one of the creators of this blog. First of all, we celebrated Private Dick's belated birthday, on the 18th of April. Venue: TGI Fridays at the Gardens. Attendance was poor though, only me, Pvt YY and Pvt Ben attended, wat's up with the rest dudes?!!! Ur absence is a direct breach of the Band of Bastards (BoB) code of conduct....leave no man behind! Oh well, u all are forgiven since everyone has their own agenda, but i hope to see better attendance next time k!

Next event was the recent Induksi plus BTN organised in Hotel Seri Malaysia in Genting Highlands on the 24th to 28th of Apr. Only me and Pvt Dick were selected for this mission, along with our other comrades from our respective camps. We also met up with other comrades from different companies...there was Pvt Ken and Pvt Wee Kee, both from my camp, and Seargant Gobi from Dick's camp.

We had fun at the Genting camp...apart from the boring ceramahs! The best part was we were able to spend time together as a bunch of friends in a relaxing environment, more like a all expense vacation if u ask me. Wished it was longer though, should be at least a week la!!!

Alritem that's all from me for now. Major Nick, signing off...

Attention all comrades!

Major Nick here, reporting for duty! =)

Yesterday morning was a historical moment, as Private Dick handed me all the details to take command over this wonderful military shaped blog, a truly wonderful gift to me on my 23rd birthday.

I can't believe it! I've stepped into the realm of blogging, something I thought I would never do despite being together with a blogger who is also my beloved gf. Oh well, I guess things do change, and I certainly will cherish and make full good use of this new blog of mine.

As a first entry, I’d like to personally thank everybody from Easy company and the paramedic and nursing division (all the girls la) who came and prepared my birthday celebration, as well as those who gave their well wishes to me. It was a bash! Very happy as this is my first time celebrating with friends over a potluck dinner, away from my homeland and deep within enemy territory (that’s why we’re all always so stressed la, LOL! =P ) Appreciate the effort u guys and gals put in to prepare the food: Fried rice, fried bihun, fruit salad, sandwiches, nuggets, fried and baked chicken wings, the tiramisu cake, and the main highlight of the dinner….the yummy “SERIOUSLY CHOCOLATE CAKE!!!”, specially bought by my beloved darling! =D Words cant express how greatful I am to you all, to be able to sacrifice ur time by putting on hold wateva mission (a.k.a. research project or studies) that you all were attempting and tracking over kilometers of no man’s land to arrive at supplies depots where the food supplies were obtained from and bringing back to “J Battalion Camp” (JBC).

Special thanks to my two good comrades and barrack mates, who have worked so hard trying to get this blog online. I love the look of the whole blog, particularly the very real pictures of us in combat gear (which we all look so cool and heroic in but actually all a bunch of bastards that would scurry away at the first sound of a gunshot, in a every man for himself fashion, LOL, just kidding =P But hey, that’s why we’re called Band of Bastards right? ; )) as well as the lovely and emotional opening theme from the Band of Brothers. WAY COOL!!! When I saw the blog, I was immensely stunned bcoz from the way it looks, I can tell a lot of hard work and time was spend of nt making it a success, and I truly appreciate and thank u both for it. Cheers! {Tabik hormat}

Last but not least, I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the blog. Very happy and amused by the many touching and also funny posts. Very good and creative imaginations la, can create funny war stories and also twist reality into a military situation, salute, salute. =D Your birthday posts mean a lot to me, very touched by all of you. =) Without Easy Company, life would be meaningless. I am very greatful to be part of this company. If there's anybody who I can count on in a battlefield (besides nurse Ee Wan that is, after all, she is a paramedic ; ) ) its got to be you guys......i hope. =P

Long live Easy Company! long live Band of Bastards!

Comrades forever! {Salutes} =I

Signing off duty for the day,
Major Nick

To my superhero ‘Spiderman’, HAPPY BIRHTDAY!!! You really saved me from IMU boring days, I know that you got a lot of fans nowadays, since you became SPIDERMAN and I’m still glad that you still can take time to read our ‘present’
Where we 1st met?
Now I recall back, it was on the bus we 1st met. We were going to visit the orphanage as ordered by IMU. You were sitting at the back, one seat before the last I remembered. If only the bus is a public bus, I think I won’t sit next to you as you looked like someone wanna ‘ zao lou’, packed with two big bags and those unshaved beard on your chin, god know when you will pull out your gun…… Luckily It’s not a public bus, so you are considered ‘ safe’ in my mind and I sat next to you. You start to give me a gentleman handshake and introduce yourself (Holly…sh%t.. Now You make me wonder whether you cleaned your hand with your ’special ’ tissue).
Good thing (I perceive as something specially for me)you did to me?
You know my memory not good, right? Maybe I missed out something important. But believe me when I say it’s hard to, think of any good thing you did to me, rather than your ‘classic incident’. I think lots of people will agree with me. Oklah….since it’s your birthday…If there is really one thing worth remember….I think is he help me to sew my shirt’s button lo….anything other than this…..erm…..unless you consider being my ‘source’ as 1 of the good things. Generally, a friend who will back you up on whatever decision you made, thoughtfulness (maybe you should applied more of this to us than you ‘EW’) and that’s it….I think
Bad thing you did to me?
Frankly speaking….It seems like you have not done anything bad either, at least not to me, or perhaps you failed each time you tried to….haiz…..
Funny stuff(s)(I can’t remember JY told me to write bout funny ‘thing’ or ‘things’)
No point going through every ‘incident’ since every1 know it quite well, in addition words just don’t seems enough for your stories. So, I just LIST IT DOWN:
1. Spiderman
2. Last night
3. Tissue
4. Act there is still 1 more…but I’ll wait till your wedding, if you know what I mean…

Private Dick

Private Nicholas, this name brings back memories. He and I, together with the rest of our comrades were conscripted into the army to serve the nation in times of war. The first time I got to know him was when we received army training in IMU (Intensive Military Training Unit). I remembered he was bragging to his comrades on how he owned them in DOTA (Defensive Offensive Training for Army) with a sniper. Being naturally me, the so-called 'super-soldier', I was curious and so approached them to offer my help in their firearms training. It turned out that Private Nicholas was indeed a sniper genius but of course I was better than him. During our entire training course in that military school, my experiences with all eleven of them whom I have grown closer to over the years were of bittersweet memories. We cried, we cursed, we bitched, we rejoiced, we worked our ass out to perfect that hellish circuit training we had every morning. Remember the time when Commander Pook used to breathe down under all our necks when we performed poorly out in the field? I could swear Private Ben Jern almost pissed his pants. Great times. The last time I saw Private Nicholas was when we were seperated after being parachuted out of nowhere during operation Omaha Beach. Soon war was over. I got sick of it all and finally retired from the military. Then one day, news reached me that you were still alive and have been promoted to the rank of Commander. Thank god I found you my friend. This friendship will live with me until the day I leave this world. Happy 23rd birthday my friend.

First of all, I’m really honoured to be given a space to write in this military blog! Since everyone started with how they met this smart yet humble guy, I shall do the same. *My creativity is somewhat limited :P * In all honesty, I did not know about the existence of “Major Nick” when he first joined the Intensive Military Training unit. I enrolled as one of the paramedic the same year (sheesh, stop boo-ing, I’m just playing along OK?), but I only knew about him in the second semester of my training! In fact, I did not know most of you from the band of bastards besides Sarjan Sexy, Private Yong Yan, Private Keat, and Private Ben whom I have come across while practicing my job in the first 3 months (I still can’t believe I’m writing this!). I can recollect the times the whole military force were to brave the winter period in the cold (LT3) for 3 months. One “night” I spotted a group of guys standing in front of the main camp (in front of LT3) when I noticed a tall guy who was not Private Pick Chai, but was Private Chun Siang whom I thought was a new soldier who just joined the force. He was apparently cracking jokes with Major Nick whom I did not come to know at that point of time. The band of bastards were there having a ball of a time when suddenly I heard a sharp laughter (or according to Private Keat, a “yell”!) that came from inside the bonfire. At that instant, I knew the band of bastards were a bunch of wacky, happy going guys who shared times of sadness and laughter together! I was curious and determined to get to know them (especially the one who made sucha loud squeal!). I was not desperate but it would be kind of a waste if I went home without forging many friendships with the people in the camp. Sadly, as my paramedic work took up a lot of my time, I did not have the opportunity to really acquaint myself to any of the band of bastards. Little did I know, Major Nick already knew about my presence in the military camp at that moment. One day, I was thrilled to be asked to stay back in the military base after my duties as Major Nick invited me to learn how to shoot (Play ping pong) together with Private Chun Siang. As the days passed, Major Nick proved to be a true gentleman I was moved by his sweet and caring nature. Our friendship blossomed and from that day on, the rest were all history!

All I wanna say is:
VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Major Nick (so not used to calling you this lah)! May God bless you always and forever! I strongly believe you will be able to accomplish all that you have started out since the IMU days up till now. I also trust that the “bastardhood” you have forged with your men will grow stronger by the day and that you it will sustain you in times of loneliness and when you’re down! With your excellent EQ and IQ (Ben, please put in some fancy military terms for EQ and IQ if you can? TQ!) , I am confident you will continue to shine as a good and respectable warrior and leader of our motherland! Finally, sit back and relax, and enjoy on your special day!

Last but not least, thank you to the creators of this page, you guys are superb!

The story begins with Commander Nick and a platoon of his fellow Marines named Hard Company fighting Japanese forces in Malaya during 1943. The outnumbered marines were killed one by one, and Nick mourns over the body of a friend, Jeng Yew whose body was shattered into pieces beyond recognition when he mistaken the pins of his enemies canned food was actually the pin of a grenade. Nick was then transported to a field hospital where he is awarded the Medal of Honor before being transported to a military hospital. By mid-1944 Nick has mostly healed from his and was then promoted to sergeant and was assigned to Easy Company. Now the grim, taciturn combat veteran received a top priority assignment which was to protect the Navajo code talker Kevin Chua and Ivan. They were told that the code cannot fall into enemy hands and that they have to resort in killing their comrades, Kevin Chua and Ivan if they were in the brink of being captured by Japanese so as to ensure the enemy can't break the code. The Marines land at KL under heavy fire from the Japanese forces. Easy company suffered heavy casualty as they were outnumbered and ill equipped compared to the superior Japanese forces. Being the kiasu fellow, Nick ran deep into enemy territory with only a knife in his hand. He stabbed thirty men in the heart and strangled sixteen more. He manage to annihilate a tank that was about to bombard him with its 30 inch cannon by stuffing his boot in its barrel. He shot down 10 zero fighters with using his enemies’ pistol and saved Kevin Chua and Ivan from certain death by blocking the enemies’ heavy machine gun bullets using his pharmacology book. As shielded his comrades from the bullets, he felt a sharp stab through his ass. He flashed back to the moment where he was in military school. He remembered the promise he has made to Yew Jinn to return all his pornographic magazines when the war ends. He summoned all his strength to face the imposter who had stabbed him and if possible kill them. He has a shock of his life he found out it was Ivan and Kevin. It looks like they betray him. Ivan said to Nick, “Why u so noob to believe us. Haha. It is not friendship but friend shit!!! Kevin Chua said that he posted the code on U tube and even posted a blog on how to break the code. Sergeant Nick finnally died in vain. The morale of this story is trust Ee wan more that you trust us as we will backstab u when we have the chance. That is why we are band of bastard.Just kiddin.Happy birthday

It was 4 years back then I was commissioned to UiTM(University of Intense Tactical Military boot camp)..At that time life was so dreadful and due to the intense training that we have to endure before we can go to war. During our brutal training I met this chap named Nick. I was enquiring about MUET (Militia Under Extensive Training programme) and I can still remember vividly how serious and focus he is in this programme to groom us as the defender of our motherland. After a couple of month I finally realised that all his seriousness masked his kind-heartedness and warmness which are embedded deep within him. We were fortunate to be assigned to fight together in the same company and that is how we became blood brothers. If you ask me, he is willing to take a bullet in his ass to safe my life. Hey buddy how’s your ass healing? He can be immature at times which he claims that it reminisced his childhood when I lecture him on how to be a man like me. Don’t be fooled his hairy looks as he is actually soft-hearted and caring. Thanks for being my friend and together we must fight to defend what we believe in. Happy birthday comrade!!!!

How did I first meet him?
Can’t remember, I think I met Ben Jern 1st, then he introduce nick to me I think. One of the few early contacts is playing Risk actually; get to know he’s a board game lover.

What nice things he do to me?
Hmm, quite a few la, firstly, giving me a chance to work with BC to earn so cash. 2ndly, being honest about my mistakes and pointing them out. Last and best of all helping a bunch of us prepare PP3 questions. Tho I didn’t pass.. still thank him la.

Bad things?
So far no, he’s quite a mature guy on the inside I think. Will try to avoid hurting ppl.

Funny Things
Hmm..Heard a lot from Kevin Chua actually, those funny things like the MTV, spiderman and etc…All from Kevin Chua actually. Prob the best thing is sitting on his car when in IMU, everyone was saying he drives damn slow, although that time not that slow la. And the way he sounds when he laughs is also very uniquely funny itself.

Finally
Didn’t get to congratz him on successfully dating Ee Wan, although I’ve been told about it for some time already.

Petaling Jaya, 1942. The Japanese invasion of Malaya has reached the city of Petaling Jaya, reducing the city to rubble as the Japanese and Malayan armies battle for the fate of the World!!! Yew Jinn, a poorly educated but a hot young thing from Malacca conscripted into the Army, manages to survive both a suicidal charge without a weapon into the front lines of the Japanese attack and the NKVD machine gunners shooting survivors who tried to flee.

Acquiring a rifle, Nicholas — an expert marksman (yeah right) — manages to kill seven Japanese officers (and the driver of their car, a general duties soldier) in a row with the only five bullets he has (u do the math), impressing a witnessing political commissar, Kevin Chua. Writing an account of Nicholas' achievement in the military newspaper, Kevin manages to inspire the broken, morale-sapped people of Malaya to renew their efforts against the Japanese invaders, and Nicholas becomes a national hero and propaganda icon. (WTF!)

The bond between the two men is to be tested, as both have fallen in love with the horizontally-challenged Jeng Yew, a citizen of the city who has volunteered in the local militia because he thinks he can get free food. However, the demoralizing effect he has on them leads to their eventual defeat.

The lesson of the story is...dun fall for a fat-ass! Stick to Ee Wan, she is simply fabulous. Happy 23rd Birthday. Nuff said.

How I meet u?
In the lab loo, my lab partner for 2.5 years in IMU!!! The first time I meet u in the lab, u looks: mature (probably becoz his HAIRRRY face +hand), weird hair styles (like old people) and short. When u told me that u are a JPA, I felt so lucky coz I have 0 experienced in lab, thinking that u can help me……. MANA TAHU……… u just slightly better than me: super slow + careless, some more nearly got our eyes burn during lab. Actually I should thx u nick, coz that time u told me to wear googles during lab, lol
What good thing u did to me ar?
Erm………….. quite a lot lo. Help me with my study la, haunted house la, food fair la and ………la. THX NICK!

How we met:
The first time I actually talked to him is probably when we were playing that WW2 dogfight card game in the living room (Nope, not joking). He turn out to be quite a geek, which is why I can easily identify with him.

Good things he did to me:
He laughs at my jokes. I fucking love it when people do that.

Bad things he did to me:
Sometimes in the middle of the night I can hear his laughter coming from downstairs. It is not exactly uncreepy.

Obligatory birthday flattery:
I think Nick is a pretty cool guy. He shoots aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.

Q1: How did I meet this guy?

A1: The fate brought us to stay together (sounds a bit gay…)
Simply put, he was my housemate for 2 years in UiTM, Shah Alam during A-Levels time.
I still remember the date we first met, 10 June 2003 (Hehe Nic, I think you should belanja me for the sake of remembering the day we first met…touched le?)
1st. impression was that he spoke in a very decent way…(a wrong impression in fact, because later on we all discovered his wild and ‘uncivilized’ nature…refer A4 for more details)

Q2: Good things he did to me?

A2: Nic is someone who you can count on. He is someone who can help you while you are in need, academically, emotionally and spiritually. Don’t believe it? Then you should talk to him more…then you will know how good he is…(Hey Nic, I’m advertising for you here, make sure you treat me better in the future!)

Q3: Bad things he did to me?

A3: None of it particularly…(No choice, you can’t talk bad about someone on his birthday right? Karma…)

Q4: Funny things about him?

A4: He is always fun to be with…his super high-pitched penetrating stereo sound effect is always the highlight in any occasions – never failed! People always associate him with a type of primate you can find in zoo…very characteristic of him…you know la…

How do i know nicholas?
That guy, so unlucky for me to be in the same class as him during the first 2 months in INTEC. haha...
But dont think that was the end...the real "pain" started when i found out he actually stayed next door in our student residen& ce!!! & worse...he was Kean Aun's housemate...AhhhhhhHHHHHH!!!
So i did not just get to see him everyday in school, but also after class in the student hall and sometimes, even heard him..YES...heard him...well, he didnt talk loud particularly...but when he laughed, it could make the whole block shaking...Hmm...probably i should use 'scream' rather than 'laugh'

What funny thing he has done?
Ahahaha...uncountable!!! First of all, his laugh, or rather, scream, which I just mentioned. I remember a friend once commented he laughed like a toad...LOL...
Besides that, he had particularly long hair on his leg. Not that mine was very short. But somehow his hair grew in such a way that it made many people wanted to strip them off...In fact, many attempts were made to 'help' him get rid of his hair...and again, we got lots of screaming from him in the 'process'...But of course, all were unsuccessful, as proven by his current legs.
& somehow, that evolved into stripping him naked...I believe most of you people who studied in boys school know that "stripping" is a ritual...We were just 18-19 then...dont expect too much maturity...although I had always been one of those good boy who watched from the side :P
Numerous attempts were made to strip him in his room or elsewhere...& i always remember he shouted "Dont Dont Dont!! I strip myself I strip myself!!!"
Haha...that explains where he learnt those stripping he did in orientation eh?
Pitiful Nicholas...

What good thing he has done to me?
Always remember Nicholas as someone who I can talk to on many issues...He would sit down & listen to u...offer advices and help whenever he can...
He was in fact one of the first few people who initiated the IMU CharityRun-Carnival when seniors passed down the project to us...Havent really thanked him for that yet...
Over the past few years, of course, there were many more big and small things but certain things are just better kept in heart :)

What bad thing he has done to me?
He left me alone in debate club!!!!!!!! ArghhhhHH!!

My birthday message
Happy birthday Nicholas!! I dont know how this message will sound like in comparison to what other people write but I've tried my best to make you sound as good a person as possible...
Hope u'll have a blast & enjoy the final few months of our course in Glasgow!!
May all your wishes come true! :)

The 1st time I met nicholas…

It was at IMU ground floor outside the cafeteria. We were sitting down round the same table. I hope you can still remember, Nick. What 1st come to my mind was his hairstyle. He seems to be someone who walked through the time tunnel from the 60s or 70s. Friendly and humble are the words that I could describe him at that moment. Time flies, 3 years of university life had just passed silently, and we managed to know each other better as time passes. Sincere, hardworking, responsible and thoughtful… Thanx for being a friend of mine… I’ll appreciate the time we spent together and the remaining 6 months of uni life. Hope our friendship will last forever. Hereby, wishing you a very happy and memorable 23rd birthday… Happy Birthday Yee Liang!

Good stuffs he had done to me…

Nick … thanx for being a true friend… Thanx for your help whenever I needed it… Thanx for sharing jokes and laughters…

Bad things…

Seriously, I can’t think of any…
Funny stuffs…
1. The lead actor of <> (The Malacca A Famosa Resort Version)
2. The lead actor of << Hing Dai>> (of course not the HK movie’s version, nick’s version is far better)
All the best … Good luck~!!!

I still remembered the incident vividly like it was yesterday. We were commission to study the geographical terrain of the IMU library. When the captain was briefing us, everyone surrounded him and attentively listen to the aim of the mission except Nick whose visual field was limited by his short stature. From that very moment our path intertwined and our bond as blood brothers were forged. Ever since I meet him, life in this forsaken camp became bearable. We shared many happy but not gay moments together with our comrades, private Dick and private Chew (we don’t have so much in common with the rest of Easy Company as they were shot dead or blown into pieces during the first invasion of Normady beach; private Kevin Chua our communication specialist drown in the sea before he could see any action and private Ivan was captured and made as POW in Italy. He died of STD two days later). I will forever cherish the time we spend training our sharp shooting skills and organising our strategies in Point Extreme and also our ability to build aeroplane and fly through the sky in Vista. It is sad as we have to part after the war has ended and transferred to other states to serve our beloved motherland. I hope our bond as blood brothers will be everlasting and will not be shattered by the sands of times. Happy birthday
